Abstract
Biofiltration is an effective means of destroying contaminants present in waste gases generated during subsurface remediation. Potentially, biofilter can be used in the cometabolic destruction of chlorinated organics. In this study, a lab-scale trickling filter for treatment of toluene and TCE waste gas was investigated. There are two sections in this experiment, only toluene is passed in the first section, TCE with toluene are passed in the second section. The best result of this study: under the operating conditions, 66% and 91% of removal efficiency (R.E.) and 9.56 gm-3h-1 and 27.93 gm-3h-1 of elimination capacity (E.C.) of TCE and toluene occurred at a 1.76-minute retention time as the concentration of TCE and toluene are 0.42 gm-3 and 0.90 gm-3.
