Abstract
From 2016, the annual reports of book sales channels such as Books.com.tw(博客來), Eslite Bookstore(誠品書局), and even “The general description of modern poetry” in The Almanac of Taiwan Literature 2017 published by National Museum of Taiwan Literature pointed out that young poets like Song Shang-Wei, Hsu Pei-Fen have become popular in the SNS (Social Network Site), and their poetry have become good seller. In 2018, some literature magazines lite Youth Literary(幼獅文藝) made the topic of literature transmission in the SNS, including Facebook, then Global View Magazine(遠見雜誌) made a report “The Renaissance Era of Taiwanese Poetry is coming.” But some Poets like Liu Wai-Tong and Shen Mian resented this report, and the controversy called “The Good Night Poem Controversy” (晚安詩論戰) happened, which affected the poem sharing fan page “The Good Night Poem” and poets mentioned in the report. All previous reports pointed out the main themes of those popular poets’ poem, like Song Shang-Wei, Hsu Pei-Fen, are the depression of life. Those poets wrote poems for curing not only themselves but readers. The time they change of their style and perspective of poetry, and even they became popular were close, which represented these changes were collective phenomena and probably influenced by similar background factors. Due to the similarity of those poets’ perspective, main theme, and style of poetry, this thesis would inspect and clarify the similarity of their texts, the progress that the authors and readers reach the consensus of interpretation of the texts, which is curing the author’s self then curing the reader, and the common background factors by the perspective of subgenre development by novel subgenre study. This thesis took Ye Qing, Ren Ming-Xin, Song Shang-Wei and Hsu Pei-Fen as the researched poets to point out the changes of their style and perspective of poetry, and how the medium, social and (literature) organization factors influence the authors, readers and the subgenre development. This thesis divided the progress of this subgenre development into 3 phases: 2011-2013, 2013-2015, 2015-2018, to reveal the development progress of “The Depressing Poets” as a subgenre of poetry. This thesis also investigated the conflicts of perspective of poetry and the system of production and sales behind “The Good Night Poem Controversy” to clarify its causes and add the development after the controversy in 2018-2019 in the conclusion.
