Myanmar contains abundant natural resources providing many raw materials for agricultural and daily-life products. For example, bamboo can be gotten everywhere in the mountainous area. In the traditional agricultural society of Myanmar, bamboos are processed to make popular bamboo products, such as chairs, bamboo houses, and daily utensils, e.g., baskets and cereal baskets. The gigantic bamboo, namely Dendro Calamus Giganteus Muro, can be found in many places in Myanmar. Dendro Calamus Giganteus Muro can grow with diameter over 30 centimeters and height exceeding 30 meters when it gets mature. It is a special variety with excellent quality in the world of bamboo. The bamboo procession is a labor-intensive industry. Since human resource is cheap in Myanmar, the combination with the rich bamboo resource would develop an industry with high competitive advantage. In this study, we analyze the bamboo processing industry in Myanmar based on the diamond model. In addition, we conduct case studies of a few individual bamboo chopstick factories. The human resource management, processing technique and the influences of government’s policy towards their competitive power are analyzed. Furthermore, we discuss the strategy of developing nations on the utilization of natural resources. The results of this research show that the bamboo processing industry in Myanmar is hampered by the unfavorable factors, such as the opening of overseas markets and the weakness of the research of processing technique and human resource management. Yet the bamboo processing industry in Myanmar still has great developing potential and excellent prospect.
