Abstract
The matrix converter is very simple in structure and has powerful controllability. Thus the matrix converter has it's major potentialty to provide direct AC/AC conversion without energy storage elements. However, there are some pratical problem to solve. So this thesis will propose a new strategy to improve the performance of matrix converters. The main purpose of the thesis is not only to contrrol the output current to follow the reference command value, but also to improve input current so that it's displacement factor can achieve unity. In this way, the converter can have a better power factor. By the way, it's easy for matrix converters to cause voltage and current spike. In order to solve the problem, the thesis adopt an useful and simple scheme. From simulations and experimental results of the pratical prototype circuit, one can see that the proposed strategy can really achieve the purpose.
