Abstract
This paper is named “Study of Nursing Prose in Taiwan: works by Co-Shi Chao, Yueh-Feng Lin, Yueh-Juen Hwu, Tsai-Luan Hung”. There have been some previous researches about disease writings and physician writers in the past, but unfortunately, little attention was paid to Nursing Literature. Base on Litterateur Studies and Text Analysis, this paper tries to build individual nurse writers’ biography and chronology by interview and collection, simultaneously observe the themes, narratives, features, meanings in their writings, last summarize overall styles of Nursing Prose in the conclusion. Though nurse writers almost focused on the nurse-patient relationship, each one have its own strengths. Co-Shi Chao touched self-recognition of nurse identity, and recorded reformation of life education, promotion of Palliative Care in early years; Yueh-Feng Lin always saw transmitting light as a lifetime career; Yueh-Juen Hwu worked in the College of Nursing for ages, teaching student nurses by her personal experiences; Tsai-Luan Hung was a military nurse, her writings included military trainings and nursing works. Nursing Prose is undoubtedly an interdisciplinary genre, and had lots of educational or social functions. It could smooth out the information asymmetry between doctor-patient relationship or nurse-patient relationship, and transfer correct and helpful medical knowledge nowadays. Nursing Prose raise the value of nursing work, and explore, manage nurse-patient relationship, showing actual appearances what are different from taking doctors as the core in the hospitals.
