Abstract
Deep blue fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes (FOLEDs) are important for OLED display and lighting; however, high-performance hosts designed for deep blue FOLEDs are very rare. In this thesis, the new series of phenanthrene derivatives PtTp, PtTpPy, PtPyBIM and PtPyCz were synthesized. The phenanthrene possesses high thermal stability and high energy gap compared with the anthracene. More importantly, these materials can serve as a host material for the blue fluorescent dopants (BCzVBi, TSTA and DPAVBi) with excellent efficiencies. Among the four phenanthrene derivatives, PtPyCz show best performance for the BCzVBi, TSTA and DPAVBi devices with excellent external quantum efficiencies as well as current and power efficiencies. Particularly, BCzVBi doped device achieve maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) over 9.0 %, current efficiency of 11.1 cd/A and power efficiency of 10.0 lm/W with the CIE co-ordinates of (0.14, 0.14) and DPAVBi doped device show maximum EQE over 9.8 % with the CIE co-ordinates of (0.14, 0.26). The phenanthrene derived compounds are promising host materials for the fluorescence blue device.
