Abstract
This project tries to explore the opinions of Taiwanes people after 1945 (World War II) for the country identity and the mentaility of the soliders retreating from mainland China to Taiwan by analyzing the work of 曹瑞原, 孤戀花. First, this project focuses on the the transformation in孤戀花, originally a song, becoming a novel, finally adapted for a movie, which involves the imagination and impact in the psychology of the Taiwanese elits. Secondly, through 林三郎’s eyes, we may have a glance at a corner of Shanghai in 1948 and conceive the political atmosphere when the Republic of China lost its regime. Finally, we can picture the immigrant lifestyle of the soliders retreating from mainland China to Taiwan via 雲芳, the character in the novel.
