Abstract
The main aim of our research is to synthesize new chiral ligands of spiro-bicyclic diol structure. We have utilized the intramolecular radical cyclization of a-iodo ketones 28, 29 and 30 for the synthesis of the rigid structures of spiro-bicyclic framework of 25, 26 and 27. The carbonyl group of 25, 26 and 27 was diastereoselectively reduced to hydroxy group and produced racemic alcohol 53a,b, 54a,b and 55a,b. Then the alcohol was protected and the subsequent hydroboration afforded a new ligand of spiro-bicyclic diol 20c,d, 23c,d and 24c,d, whose stereochemical confirmation was achieved by X-ray. However, the optical resolution is has yet to be successful. This is being carried out in our laboratory.
