Abstract
Nowadays, people can contact with people living on another side of earth easily by smartphone and mobile network. The friend-making behavior starts to move the mobile platform. Friend-making apps provide intuitive gesture operations to make friend-making easier and more efficient. However, the flows of mainstream friend-making apps are little different from each other, so we want to understand if this friend-making flow is suitable for most of the users, and what HCI component can improve the friend-making experience. We created an online questionnaire to collect the responses from users who have used one of mobile friend-making apps from November 21, 2016 to November 27, 2016, and there are 509 valid responses. We found females really mind they are seen by strangers on the apps so they are unwilling to provide portraits or interact via video. And, providing objective information, like mutual friends, is helpful to reduce the mistrust of users on friend-making apps. We also consider to applying some popular functions from instant messaging apps to friend-making apps. Most of the respondents agree the "read" sign is helpful to make friends but group chat and self-destructing message are not suitable for friend-making apps.
