Abstract
Practical computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems are required for manufacturing enterprises to obtain engineering management competence and manufacturing technique competence in marketplace competitions. Therefore the objective of this study is set to be the construction of CIM systems development procedure for manufacturing enterprises. In order to fit various manufacturing enterprises, the CIM system development procedure shoule have consistent steps and independent modules that can be developed separately. The process is the dominant element in enterprise operations. Nowadays several automation methodologies including process concept are famoius in both academic and business areas. For example, the CIM-OSA reference architecture contributed by ESPRIT project AMICE, the ARIS system created by A.-W. Scheer, and the PCIMS Procedure proposed by MIRL of ITRI. In this study, the process concept is also introduced to complete the entire procedure, and helps construct a CIM system development procedure featuring two major parts: Model Construction and System Implementation. The model construction stage contains several phases in series. First is the selection of enterprise business domain (EBD) for manufacturing enterprises. The selected domain is exact the CIM system module produced by the development procedure. Second is the analyses of domain processes, where all processes in the selected domain are analyzed on four analytical views. Third is the construction of system module, and three derivation levels are executed to develop the CIM system mdoule. Then in the system implementation stage, actual CIM system module is developed based on the instructions from model construction stage. Plantmaintenance (PM) domain is used for example to verify and prove the CIM system development procedure.
