Abstract
The competition among the industry is fiercer and fiercer. For manufacture industry, the overall output is a very important topic, and manufacturing management is an indispensable ring. If the management is not good, even the most advanced technology might not consolidate the company’s position in competitive environment. Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is the key point of manufacture industry to enhance their competitiveness. However, current systems still rely on manual operation. The existing system interfacecontained many drawbacks including irregular display content, complicated procedure, inconsistent design, as well as incomplete information feedback, which would produce negative effects inclusive of the following issues:operate mistakes easily, increase loading ofmemory, prolonging of operation time, and rise of psychological pressure. So it still has large room to improve the interface of MES. Therefore, the purposes of this study were to study and detect the problems of MES user interface and implement some improvements, as well as verify the effectiveness. This study would study and detect the problems of MES user interface for manufacture industry from the perspective of user interface design. In addition to gathering current samples of MES operational interface used in the industry and reviewing relevant literature, regarding interface design. Will develop improved user interface of MES from both theory and practice, and implemented in the case company. This tudy followed some procedures. Firstly to analyze problems, list the working procedures of MES interface for the case company and record the operating process steps and the operation time for performance comparison of interface design before and after the improvement. Then, to apply human interface design guidelines including guidelines for data display, guidelines for data input, and guidelines for causing users attention, as well as production management practices - visualmanagement and color management, to improve the system interface. Finally, to verify the effectiveness of improved MES user interface on operating the process steps and operation time. The results indicated a significant improvement of the operating process steps and the operation time after redesigning the MES user interface. The results of this study showed that the use of user interface design guidelines and visual and color management techniques to redesign the user interface was suitable for MES of the case company. It is really helpful for on-site operators to speed up operation time and reduce operation steps and mistakes.
