Abstract
The thesis discusses 2D laminated plates bonded by bolt. The plates are subjected to the uniformly distributed load 10MPa at far field. A variety of laminates are considered, including Lamina(0∘), Cross-ply[0/90]2s, and Quasi-isotropic[0/+45/90/-45]s. Not only is the influence of the friction between bolt and the plate taken into account, but also the gap between them is considered. The stress distribution between bolts and laminates are calculated, and the failure mode and failure location are determined by Tsai-Wu failure criterion. The simulations have been done by using ANSYS. The plate is composed of AS/3501 carbon/epoxy, and the bolt is made up of A36-steel. From the results of the simulations, we have found the contact region with gap will lead to reduction of the stress distribution range, and the increase of the contact stress. If there is friction between the contact region, the stress distribution range will increase slightly, and it will also reduce the contact stress. Through different simulations, we have found that Cross-ply[0/90]2s is the strongest laminate. In other words, the laminates type of Cross-ply[0/90]2s is the most suitable as a plates with bolted joints. On the models bonded by two or three bolts, if we increase the distance of the bolts, the contact stress will decrease slightly, and so is the value of Tsai-Wu discriminant.
