Abstract
在網際網路中，大部份的路由器只有支援點對點的傳輸。因此，目前網際網路中主從式架構的網路應用大部份都是以點對點的方式來建立連線。若要達到群播，則伺服器可以跟所有加入群的群員，以點對點的方式來建立連線，而達到群播的功能。但這種方法對伺服器和網路頻寬而言，並不是最佳的方法。MBone，The Multicast Backbone，它是在網際網路中的一個網路骨幹，是用來傳送群資料的環境。在這個網路骨幹中，須要路由器來支援點對多的傳輸。但在目前網際網路中，許多的路由器並沒有支援點對多的傳輸。因此，在MBone中的路由器之間必須建立tunnel，來跟網際網路中其他的路由器溝通，當MBone上的一個路由器要傳送群資料時，此路由器須要將群資料再包一層封包，然後以點對點傳輸的方式送到MBone上另一個路由器。因此，網際網路中的路由器才知道該如何將封包送到目的地。因此，一般網路應用並不能直接傳送群資料。此篇論文提出另一種方式能在網際網路環境中傳送群資料。此篇論文所提出的網路通訊架構分為兩個部分。第一部分是區域網路之間群資料的傳輸。第二部分是區域網路內部群資料的傳輸。在區域網路之間群資料的傳輸部分中，主要是利用代理伺服器的概念來建立Group Delivery Tree。也就是群員若發現其附近有其他群員存在時，直接向附近的群員取群資料而不用向距離較遠的伺服器取群資料。在區域網路內部群資料的傳輸部分中，是採用區域網路群播方式來傳送群資料。在同一個區域網路中，只要有一位群員向伺服器或其附近的群員取群資料，然後以區域網路群播方式傳送給其他在同一個區域網路上的群員。Most applications on the Internet use unicast to establishconnection betweena server and a client. It needs routers to support IP multicast. But mostrouters on the Internet do not support IP multicast. So it needsadditional effort to establish tunnels among multicast routers.In the thesis, we propose another mechanism to achieve multicastwithout modifying routing protocols on the Internet.We willaddress how to construct the group delivery tree to maintaingroup memberships and benefit from LAN multicast.
