Abstract
As we entered the 21st century, the poetry scene witnessed a "flourishing landscape," with many emerging poets making their mark with vibrant performances. At the same time, the colloquial poetry writing became the mainstream, shaping an aesthetic perspective different from the past. In this transition, Off the Roll, Poetry+(衛生紙詩刊)played an indispensable and crucial role. Additionally, considering the dissemination strategies and poem selections of Off the Roll, Poetry+, one cannot ignore its experimental exploration of "Another Kind of Poetry." From this starting point, this article discovers the experimental and subversive nature hidden within its colloquial and realistic writings, making it impossible to evaluate the aesthetic achievements of Off the Roll, Poetry+ using previous discussions related to realism and colloquialism. Therefore, this article will first explore how Off the Roll, Poetry+ contended with the prevailing poetry trends of the time and subsequently transformed the face and fate of poetry. It views Off the Roll, Poetry+ as a literary movement rooted in opposition to the ornate literary award systems, emphasizing the connection between poetry and reality, advocating for the practical use of poetry, and promoting plain and colloquial language. Moreover, Off the Roll, Poetry+ led the popularization of poetry, encouraging and fostering a culture of poetry creation and reading, cultivating many new talents through its cultural ties with Dark Eyes Ltd.(黑眼睛文化)and the Taipei Poetry Festival(台北詩歌節). Another focus of this article is the discussion of the aesthetic dimension, observing how the poets of Off the Roll, Poetry+ interpret the aesthetics of "reality" through " colloquial." It categorizes the nine core poets of Off the Roll, Poetry+ into three groups based on their linguistic styles: the power of contrast, the game of reasoning, and the narrative orientation, aiming to present the overall and multifaceted aesthetic expressions of Off the Roll, Poetry+ and grasp the concrete connotation of "Another Kind of Poetry."
