AbstractThe user interface should consider the individual difference of the users. For the complex system, the user interface should support the users’ information processing style. The MBTI questionnaire had been used to indicate people styles of perceiving and judging information in many researches. The cognitive style traits would be used to design suitable interfaces for different information processing styles. Although these interface design principles were developed by the computer-based procedures in nuclear power plants. We hope other computer-based systems can also use these interface design principles to develop the particular guidance for specific domain.The computer-based procedures in nuclear power plant were taken as the experimental system. Two different interfaces had been designed based on the cognitive style traits of sensing type and intuitive type. The pilot study of MBTI questionnaire would be done to classify specific users. A three factors between-subject experimental design would be used to test if the design principles were advantageous.The results confirmed that suitable interface would let the users more accurate and faster. In a complex system, like nuclear power plant, many factors would influence the performance of operators. An appropriate interface would effectively decrease the response time in a critical situation, and the number of error would certainly reduce by suitable interface.
