Abstract
This study examines the relationship between the features of information tool and the activities of knowledge management. Three features are identified from information tools used in knowledge management such as Information Richness, Interactivity, and Functionality. Four types of activities in the knowledge management process such as Knowledge Creation, Knowledge Arrangement, Knowledge Deposition, and Knowledge Dissemination are also defined. An empirical study was then conducted to test the relationship between the features of information tool and types of activities in KM. In addition, the impacts of KM activities on organization performance were examined.The result shows that Functionality has positive impact on all types of activities in the KM process, and the Information Richness has a significant positive impact on knowledge creation and knowledge arrangement. Besides it also shows that the activity of knowledge dissemination is a significant factor influencing the R&D expenditure reduction and customer satisfaction improvement.Among the IT tools used, we find that e-mail and intranet are most prevailing tools used in the survey company while the usage of groupware and teleconference are still very limited.Keywords: Knowledge Management (KM), Information Tool.
