Abstract
This thesis investigates the relationship among the transmitted torque, relative angular offset and transmission accuracy, and the effect of dimensional parameters on the performance of the magnetic coupling. The configuration of the yoke-guided magnetic coupling is first illustrated. Followed by the construction of system dynamics, the tracking performance of the coupling is then obtained from computer simulation. For the purpose of the simulation, material properties such as the B-H curve of the permanent magnet and the permeability of the iron yoke are tested via the equipment of B-H tracer and SQUID, respectively. Using the Ansoft-Maxwell 2D finite element program performs a parametric study on the basis of the geometry of permanent magnets and iron yokes. In addition, a static test rig is constructed to experimentally verify the relationship between the transmitted torque and the angular offset of an existing yoke-guided radial-type magnetic coupling. Finally, the effect of radial error offset resulting from misalignment on the performance of the magnetic coupling is investigated.
