Abstract
The purpose of this work is to propose a systematic approach for synthesizing the dimensions of linkage mechanism with considering its dynamic characteristic. The four-bar type motorcycle rear sus-pension is the example to verified this procedure. Based on the so-lution plane method, this procedure first proposes leverage ratio curve as the kinematic creitrion and the natural frequency and damp-ing ratio of system as the dynamic criteria. Then the solution planeis established and dimensions of the four-bar type motorcycle rearsuspension are synthesizing with these criteria. After some simulatingof the suspension and analyzing the characteristic of comfrot andstability, we can further mark the recommended area on the solutionplane for designer to choose a suitable solution. The output of this work provides a powerful tool to understand the system dynamics from the viewpoint of linkage dimensions.
