Abstract
The purpose of the study was to treat novel multiply bonded complexes with organic nitriles. Using a boraamidinate ligand to support the Mo-Mo multiple bond forms three types Mo-Mo multiply bonded complexes: Mo2[µ-κ2-PhB(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (2a), [(THF)(K-18-C-6)]Mo2[µ-κ2-PhB(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (3) and [(THF)2(K-18-C-6)]2Mo2[µ-κ2-PhB(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (4). And the bond order between the metals are 4, 4.5 and 5. Reaction of 2a and organic nitriles underwent a [2+2] cycloaddition and obtained [µ-η2-(R)CN]Mo2[µ-κ2-PhB(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (5: R = Me; 6: R = Ph) with a four-membered ring. Reacting with alkynes yielded a four-membered ring product, [µ-η2-HCC(SiMe3)]Mo2[µ-η2-(Ph)B(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (16), as well. Furthermore, treatment of 2a and 3 with nitriles obtained [µ-η1:η1-NC(Ph)C(Ph)N]Mo2[µ-κ2-PhB(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (7) and [µ-η2-NC(CH3)N(K-18-C-6)C(CH3)]Mo2[µ-κ2-PhB(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (10) through a [2+2+2] cycloaddition pathway. Interestingly, reaction of 2a and 4 could activate N-N double bond and C-N triple bond and form cis-(C6H5N-Mo)2[µ-η2-(Ph)B(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (14) and (PhC)(N)Mo2[µ-η2-(Ph)B(N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]2 (12).
