Abstract
In this study, in order to investigate the amalgamation on the thin gold films, the crystal structure and morphology analysis of gold amalgams were studied with transmission electron microscopy. Specimens were prepared by exposing thin gold films under mecury vapour environment in room temperature and in hot water bath. Experimental data were compared with database. The distribution of amalgam particles on thin gold films was found to be non-uniform, and the adsorption rate deviated from theoretical calculation. Moreover, Au3Hg were verified by analysing diffraction patterns from those amalgam particles. Besides, the successful evaporation of mercury by amalgam method is developed in this study as well.
