Abstract
This study is aimed establishing an interface program to assist in design of VDT(Visual Display Terminal) workstation. It first utilizes figure-based expressions to simulate the working situations in terms of VDT task requirements, and operator characteristics. Then the interaction between the VDT workstation and the operator is evaluated. Finally, some suggestions are made to serve as the basis for adjusting the design of VDT workstation or the location of facilities. The whole interface program is written in Visual Basic5.0 R under MS Windows 95 R working environment. Besides, with regard to the design of the VDT workstation, in addition to some general principles of designing VDT workstations, the anthropometry data of Taiwan's workers and students are also included. Further, for interface design, ISO 9241, ANSI/HFS100 and common guidelines are also followed. This system can aid in designing a VDT workstation suitable for Taiwanese' workers and reduce the risk of VDT working syndromes. The same research method can be applied to the workstation design of other tasks.
