Abstract
A novel method to make open-cell aluminium foams using soft ceramic balls was reported to replace the hard, cubic-shaped NaCl particles. Compositions of the ceramic balls include alumina particle, polyvinyl alcohol, water and small amounts of bentonite. It was found that the porosity of the final product can be manipulated through either ball size and the load applied during packing.
