Abstract
With the rapid growth in the number of systematic review articles in the field of exercise science, effectively assessing their methodological quality has become a critical issue in academia. AMSTAR 2, an updated tool for evaluating methodological quality, introduces various improvements tailored to non-randomized studies and bias risk control, demonstrating its potential applications in exercise science. This article introduces the background, content updates, evaluation methods, advantages, and limitations of AMSTAR 2. Findings reveal that AMSTAR 2 offers a standardized and systematic evaluation process, distinguishes between critical and non-critical domains, exhibits better reliability, and is both simple and time-efficient. However, AMSTAR 2 still requires optimization in areas such as the comprehensiveness of scoring options, guidance for assessing specific types of research, and implementation processes. In summary, AMSTAR 2 provides researchers with an appropriate tool for quality assessment, enhancing systematic review quality and laying a stronger foundation for academic research.
