Strain engineering via heteroepitaxy alters the ground state of material. Yet, the strain is fixed once the substrate is determined. Recently, Deng et al. proposed continuous strain applying via tuning the thickness of the buffer layer. This result extends the possibility of compatibility with commercial substrate, offering a significant and practical breakthrough in the development of strain engineering.
