The electrochemical performances of Si anodes with carbon fabric (CF) and Cu foil as current collectors are compared. Scanning electron microscopy analysis shows that after repeated charge/discharge, the Si anode with CF is stable and does not fracture like the conventional one with Cu foil. Cyclic voltammetry analysis further reveals that the reaction of CF with Li + is more prominent in the electrochemical reaction of anodes fabricated with micro-sized Si particles, compared to those with nano-sized Si particles. Most importantly, replacing the conventional Cu foil with CF in the Si anode results in remarkably reduced resistance and improved cell cyclability.
