Abstract

A novel method, Reciprocating extrusion, exploited to realize the high potential of Mg-15 Al-1Zn alloys to exhibit superior mechanical properties and superplasticity, was discussed. It was found that the method bypassed the costly and complicated RS+P/M route. It was observed that the microstructure of Mg-15Al-1Zn alloy could not only be simply and cost effectively refined but also homogenized reciprocating extrusion. The results show that the Mg-15Al-Zn alloy that were processed by reciprocating extrusion have great potential for superplastic forming, also providing high mechanical properties at low cost.
