Astigmatic resonator concepts have been developed and tested in TRW chemical laser facilities. It was demonstrated that this type of resonator is suitable for closed-cavity multiple-mode operation and has good mode filling capability for a laser with a high aspect ratio rectangular gain medium. © 1985 Optical Society of America.
