Abstract

Treatment of tungsten-η 1 -7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptadiene and -η 1 -7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptene with CF 3 SO 3 H leads to atypical carbon-carbon bond scission and deoxygenation; the reaction intermediates in the bond scission involves a tungsten-η 1 -2-hydrofurylium cation.
