Abstract

The periodic Anderson model contains many parameters: the bare f-electron energy E 0 , the average hybridization V, the conduction electron band width W and density of states ρ{variant} 0 , and the f-electron degeneracy N. At zero temperature the thermodynamic properties are given in terms of one parameter, the Kondo temperature T K . However, the detailed behaviour at finite temparature including the crossover to the high-temperature classical regime does depend on the original Anderson parameters. In particular, we find that there is a secondcharacteristic temperature τ = V 2 W 4 ,which is important in determining the shape of the magnetic susceptibility. This temperature has already been identified as being important for the dependence of the chemical potential and its effect on the effective Kondo temperature. © 1993.
