摘要
Common safety treatment for the high-level radioactive waste (HLW) (i.e. spent nuclear fuels, SNFs) is the multibarrier deep geological disposal that stores the HLW in an underground site using the canister surrounded by buffer, backfill, and rock. One of essential requirements for safety design and operation of the repository system is temperature limit. Therefore, the majority of this work is to develop a simplified methodology to determining the minimum area needed for the deep geological repository from the point of view of thermal management. Assessed with the nomographic and tunnel/canister spacing charts from SKB R09-04 and SNFD-AR2019-V2, this analysis methodology can be applied in determining the minimum repository area for the SNFs in the Chinshan NPP with confidence. Effects of buffer/rock conductivities on the deposition site are considered. Based on the sensitivity simulations, reduction of repository area can be effectively achieved by reducing tunnel spacing and simultaneously increasing canister spacing.
