A series of excitation pulses was irradiated on a capillary, and a standing wave capillary vibration (CVL) was induced by using a pulse repetition rate equal to the natural frequency of the capillary system. The amplitude of the standing CVL was recovered by a lock-in amplifier. This method was applied to detect CVL, which has been proposed as an ultrasensitive detection method for capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE). Three femtomole of phenylalanine was detected using a 30 |xm inner diameter capillary. © 1993, The Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry. All rights reserved.
