Abstract

In a cellular mobile radio network, mobile nodes are scattered over a geographical area which is divided into a set of disjoint cells. In each cell, one of the mobile nodes is elected as a cell head, which provides services for other nodes within that cell. In this report, we propose two distributed algorithms to construct dynamic multi-level hierarchical structures of cell heads for large cellular mobile radio networks. Two models, the multiple frequency model and the single frequency model, are introduced to model this structure for different implementation considerations. Two routing algorithms are also developed to deliver the packets on the constructed structures. The performance of the proposed hierarchical structures is also evaluated.
