Abstract
This paper presents an analysis which shows that the application of a triple resonance can significantly improve the third harmonic susceptibility of a parabolic quantum well at 10.16 μm. Values of up to 2000 (nm/V) 2 can be achieved. The results are only valid for quantum well structures that have equal subband spacing. This can provide a technique for synthesizing new third order nonlinear optical materials. The GaInAs/AlInAs system considered is of interest due to its larger conduction band edge offset.
