Abstract

acyl halide carbyne Friedel-Crafts addition molybdenum quintuple bond
Give me five: Group VI metal quintuple bonds undergo Friedel-Crafts-type haloacylation reactions. Treatment of the quintuple-bonded molybdenum complexes with one equivalent of acyl halides RCOX (R=Me, C 6 H 5 , 2-MeC 6 H 4 ; X=Cl, Br), yields metal-metal quadruple-bonded acyl complexes. Subsequent treatment with a second equivalent of acyl halides causes disproportionation of two acyl groups to give dimolybdenum carbyne carboxylate complexes.
