Abstract

In situ measurements of elemental concentrations in an environmental water body by using a 252 Cf neutron source and a HPGe detector are described. Two detection arrangements using backscatter and transmission geometries are reviewed. Significant characteristics, including detection sensitivity, spectral background, detection limits, detector neutron damage and residual activities in water are compared. The advantages and limitations of the method are discussed. © 1993.
