Abstract

A testing method for the mechanical characterization of square microfabricated elastomeric membranes was developed. The depth-sensing microindentation system provided accurate load-displacement measurements and complete profiles of deformed membranes. A theoretical model was used to correlate the membrane elasticity to the measured compliance under indentation. The average values of the Young's modulus for the membranes were determined through simulated and experimental results.
