Miniaturization of sensitive detection system is a key factor for integrated chemical systems. Thermal lens microscope can be applied to the ultra-sensitive detection of non-fluorescent molecules in many applications. By using a very small SELFOC™ micro lens as an objective, palmtop-sized thermal lens microscope (PTLM) has been constructed. A calibration curve for an aqueous solution in a range of 1.0 × 10 -5.0 × 10 mol/L has been measured in this newly designed PTLM. © 2002 SPIE · 0277-786X/02/$15.00.
