Interfacial Reactions in Sn/Cu2Se Couples

Cu-Se-Sn is an important material system in energy applications. Interfacial reactions between the Sn/Cu 2 Se couples are examined at 300°C, 400°C, and 500°C. Non-planar interfacial reaction layers are observed in all three reaction temperatures. The initial reaction layer is SeSn. Further, two different Cu 2 Se 3 Sn phase formations are found: (1) as a non-planer layer at the interface between SeSn and Cu 2 Se at low temperatures (300°C and 400°C) with longer reaction times (60 min and 120 min), and (2) as precipitation in Cu 2 Se substrate at 500°C for all reactions time. In addition, SeSn and η-Cu 6 Sn 5 precipitates are formed near the interface in the liquid Sn. The determined reaction path is liquid/SeSn/Cu 2 Se 3 Sn/Cu 2 Se.
