Interfacial reactions in Pt/Ti, Pt/Zr, Pt/TiO2, and Pt/ZrO2 couples

Abstract

Interfacial reactions in four kinds of diffusion couples, Pt/Ti, Pt/Zr, Pt/TiO 2 , and Pt/ZrO 2 , are examined. Ti 3 Pt, TiPt, and γ phases are observed in the Pt/Ti couples annealed at 800 °C. PtZr and Pt 3 Zr 5 are formed in the Pt/Zr couples reacted at 900 °C. No noticeable reaction are found when TiO 2 and ZrO 2 are annealed in contact with Pt with relatively high oxygen activities.
