Abstract

The level scheme of Ce148 populated by decay of La148, produced in thermal neutron fission of U235, has been studied. Ion beams of mass 148 were separated by an on-line isotope separator and deposited on a movable tape. Gamma-ray singles, - time, - angular correlations, and time sequenced and spectra were collected. The half-life for La148 was measured to be 1.050.01 s. A level scheme for Ce148 is presented including several members of the ground, and octupole bands. The resulting level scheme has been compared with other N=90 nuclides and with interacting-boson-approximation-2 calculations. RADIOACTIVITY La148 [from U235(nth,f)] measured t12, E, I, t coincidence, () angular correlation; HPGe and Ge(Li) detectors; Ce148 deduced levels, J and I. Mass-separated Ba148 activity.
