Abstract
Powder X-ray diffraction data indicate that Nd 2 Fe 14 B-type single phase exists for the pseudoternary system Nd 2 (Co 1-x M x ) 14 B up to x = 0.20 for M = Ni, x = 0.08 for M = Cu and x = 0.10 for M = Ga and Ge, respectively. The unit cell volume V decreases for the smaller substitution element Ni, while it increases for the larger Cu, Ga and Ge. Room temperature magnetization of the Nd 2 (Co 1-x M x ) 14 B samples measured at 1.7 T decreases monotonically with x. Curie temperatures T C also decrease significantly with progressive substitution of Co by less magnetic Ni or nonmagnetic and larger ions (M = Cu, Ga or Ge). Axial-to-planar transition temperatures T sr change only slightly with the partial substitution. © 1989.
