Abstract

Maragoni effect Micro-PIV Microdroplet Transient flowfield measurement
Present works measure the velocity field within the 1μl droplet using Micro-resolution Particle Image Velocimetry (μ-PIV) and compare the measured flowfields with the computed ones using first principle equations. The fluorescent images of the seeded particles (polystyrene of 7 μm) inside the moving droplets are obtained by μ-PIV. The thermal chip fabricated using MEMS technology is served as the solid surface for the droplet moving. The velocity vector plots of two cutting planes parallel to solid surfaces are obtained by μ-PIV and they serves as the bases for comparison of three-dimensional flow fields from numerical computations.
