Abstract
The attainable narrowest particle size distribution with particles of significant mean size for an idealized isothermal aerosol process was found to occur in the transition regime. The corresponding geometric mean particle size, the geometric standard deviation of the distribution, and the occurring dimensionless residence time were studied as functions of the dimensionless chemical reaction time, θ, the monomer Kundsen number, Kn 1 , and the ratio of characteristic coagulation times of kinetic collisions and continuum diffusions, E.
