Abstract

<span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">Strains identified as Williopsis saturnus or Zygowilliopsis californica were isolated from soil in northern Taiwan and are new records to Taiwan. All the strains examined had typical morphological and physiological characteristics to W. saturnus or Z. californica, respectively. Meanwhile, their sequences of D1/D2 domain of large subunit rDNA were closely related to those of these two strains (0 or 1 nucleotide difference), respectively. Morphological and physiological characteristics of the strains representing these two species are described.
