Abstract
We conceptually propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel multifunction all-optical packet switch architecture with less active optical components and simpler traffic control by adopting a periodic wavelength arrangement between wideband fiber Bragg gratings and an arrayed waveguide grating in the optical buffering unit and output ports, respectively. Three functionalities of switch, including first-in-first-out multiplexing, switching, and adddrop are successfully exhibited by the proposed architecture with negligible power penalties. © 2010 IEEE.
