Photoelectrochemical properties of sulfidized TiO2 electrodes

Abstract

Pure and Nb-doped TiO 2 (with 0.05mol% Nb 2 O 5 ) pellets were reacted with sulfur at 900 or 1000 °C. The effect of substitution of sulfur for oxygen on the photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties were studied. The phases and microstructures before and after sulfidation were examined. For pure TiO 2 , sulfidation greatly improved the PEC performance. Reaction at a higher temperature for a longer time allowed more sulfidation and resulted in a higher PEC current. For Nb-doped TiO 2 , high-temperature sulfidation also induced segregation of Nb on the grain boundaries. The PEC properties of the sulfidized electrodes could be correlated with the extent of sulfidation and the change of microstructures. © 1995.
