TOA-MC was developed to act as absorbent for selective separation of Tc-99(VII) from high-level radioactive liquid waste. The uptake (%) of Re(VII) a substitute for Tc(VII) due to similar chemical behavior by TOA-MC normally exceeding 95% in the presence of dilute HNO3 was strongly retained and decreased with higher HNO3 concentration by batch method. The surface morphology, thermal stability and diameter/size distribution of the microcapsules were examined by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and digital microscope, respectively. The chemical structure was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
