Abstract

A quasi-static electric field can enhance laser-induced diffraction rings from a nematic liquid-crystal film. This phenomenon is shown to be the combined result of the critical behavior of the sample at the Freedericksz transition and the nonlinear coupling of the optical and quasi-static electric fields. © 1979, Optical Society of America.
