The working temperature of solar roof tiles tends to fluctuate rapidly with sunlight intensity, which affects the temperature of the building's roof. Therefore, this study aims to stabilize the temperature of solar roof tiles and regulate the temperature of the building by installing phase change material (PCM) on the back surface of solar roof tiles. The study compares the temperatures of solar roof tiles at different locations with and without PCM. The experimental results indicate that solar roof tiles with PCM have slower temperature rise and fall rates compared to regular solar roof tiles. When compared to regular roof tiles, the ones with PCM can delay temperature rise by nearly 2 h and reduce the peak temperature by 7 °C. Moreover, in the experiment conducted under higher ambient temperatures, the temperature beneath the solar roof tiles with PCM installed was 25.9 °C at sunset. It is 4 °C lower than that without PCM (29.9 °C), which is beneficial to indoor cooling. In addition, the theoretical power generation (estimated by total DP values) of tiles can, at most, be improved by 2.1 % with PCM installation.
