Abstract

Human Factors and Ergonomics Engineering (all)
An experimental study to analyze the effects of tool design on several aspects of a utility cover removal task was conducted. In addition to force analysis imposed on the lower back joint, the study also estimated the moment applied about the ankle joint caused by the external load and the required coefficient of friction. The findings suggested that selecting an optimal tool was not straightforward, and trade-offs between safety considerations may be required.
